🧠June is Stroke Awareness Month: Why It Matters and How You Can Help Save a Life

Every year, thousands of Canadians suffer a stroke—and every moment counts. That’s why June is recognized as Stroke Awareness Month, a time to learn more about the warning signs, the risks, and the actions that can save a life.
What Is a Stroke?
A stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted, either by a blockage (ischemic stroke) or by bleeding (hemorrhagic stroke). Without oxygen-rich blood, brain cells begin to die within minutes.
The effects of a stroke can range from mild to life-altering—and in some cases, even fatal. But here’s the encouraging part:
Up to 80% of strokes are preventable, and early treatment can significantly improve outcomes.
Recognizing a Stroke: Think F.A.S.T.
Knowing the signs of a stroke can make all the difference. Use the acronym FAST to remember:
F – Face: Is one side of the face drooping?
A – Arms: Can they raise both arms? Is one weak or numb?
S – Speech: Is their speech slurred or jumbled?
T – Time: Time to call 911 immediately
🕒 Stroke is a medical emergency. The faster someone receives treatment, the better their chances of recovery.
Why Stroke Awareness Matters to Us
At BE-Alive CPR, we believe everyone should feel confident and prepared in an emergency.
