BE-Alive CPR is dedicated to protecting the personal information of our students and participants. We handle your personal data in compliance with Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and other relevant laws. This policy describes the principles and practices we adhere to in safeguarding your personal information.
This policy applies to BE-Alive CPR and anyone providing services on our behalf. A copy of this policy is available to any student or participant upon request.
What is Personal Information?
Personal information refers to details about an identifiable individual, such as:
- Name
- Mailing address
- Email address
- Phone number
- Payment information
- Educational history
What Personal Information Do We Collect?
We collect only the personal information necessary to:
- Deliver requested products and services
- Provide updates and promotions
- Send notifications for course renewals, confirmations, cancellations, and changes in business functions or locations
We usually collect personal information directly from students and participants. We may also collect and share information with other organizations for certification and registration purposes, such as the Heart and Stroke Foundation Canada, or as permitted by law.
Notification
We inform our students and participants about the purposes for which we collect personal information before or at the time of collection. The only exception is when the information is volunteered for an obvious purpose, such as registering for a course online and paying a fee.
Consent
We obtain consent to collect, use, or disclose personal information, except in specific situations where it is authorized or required by law. We may assume your consent if you volunteer information for an obvious purpose.
We request explicit consent for certain purposes and may not provide some services if consent is not given. Express consent is usually obtained orally (in person or by telephone) or via our website.
Students and participants can withdraw their consent at any time, except when the information is necessary for legal obligations or course registration. We will respect your decision, but this may limit the services we can provide.
We may collect, use, or disclose personal information without consent only as permitted by law. For example, consent is not required for suitability assessments for awards, audits by appropriate organizations, or in emergencies.
How Do We Use and Disclose Personal Information?
We use and disclose personal information only for the purposes for which it was collected, except as permitted by law. For example, we use contact information to register students for certification courses and share necessary details with certifying organizations. We may also use names for testimonials on our website with online feedback.
If we wish to use or disclose your personal information for a new business purpose, we will seek your consent, unless the law permits otherwise (e.g., for debt collection).
Safeguarding Personal Information
We take reasonable measures to ensure personal information is accurate and complete. We rely on individuals to notify us of any changes to their information. If you find an error in our records, please inform us, and we will correct it where possible. A written request for correction may be required in some cases.
We protect personal information according to its sensitivity and make every effort to prevent loss, misuse, disclosure, or unauthorized access. We use appropriate security measures, such as shredding paper records and permanently deleting electronic records, when destroying personal information.
We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or for legal or business purposes.
Access to Personal Information
Individuals have the right to access their personal information in our custody, subject to certain exceptions under PIPA. If we refuse access, we will provide reasons for the refusal. In some cases, we may withhold certain information and provide the remainder of the record.
To request access to your personal information, please contact us at info@bealivecpr.com. Provide sufficient details to help us identify the information you are seeking.
You can also request information about our use and disclosure of your personal information and ask for corrections of any errors or omissions.
We will respond to your request within 45 calendar days, unless an extension is granted. We may charge a reasonable fee for providing information but not for making corrections. Fees, if any, will be communicated before processing your request.
